  2. The OpenLDAP Project is pleased to announce the availability
  3. of OpenLDAP Software 2.6, a suite of the Lightweight Directory
  4. Access Protocol (v3) servers, clients, utilities, and
  5. development tools.
  6. This release contains the following major enhancements:
  7. * Slapd(8) enhancements
  8. - Ability to log directly to a file bypassing syslog
  9. * Retired backends
  10. - back-ndb
  11. * Deprecated backends
  12. - back-sql
  13. - back-perl
  14. * lloadd(8) enhancments
  15. - Additional load balancing strategies
  16. - Additional options to improve coherence with certain
  17. controls and extended operations
  18. - Ability to log directly to a file bypassing syslog
  19. This release includes the following major components:
  20. * slapd - a stand-alone LDAP directory server
  21. * lloadd - a stand-alone LDAP load balancing proxy server
  22. * -lldap - a LDAP client library
  23. * -llber - a lightweight BER/DER encoding/decoding library
  24. * LDIF tools - data conversion tools for use with slapd
  25. * LDAP tools - A collection of command line LDAP utilities
  26. * Admin Guide, Manual Pages - associated documentation
  27. In addition, there are some contributed components:
  28. * LDAPC++ - a LDAP C++ SDK
  29. * Various slapd modules and slapi plugins
