  31. A low-level interface to a growing number of Amazon Web Services. The
  32. botocore package is the foundation for the
  33. `AWS CLI <https://github.com/aws/aws-cli>`__ as well as
  34. `boto3 <https://github.com/boto/boto3>`__.
  35. On 01/15/2021 deprecation for Python 2.7 was announced and support will be dropped
  36. on 07/15/2021. To avoid disruption, customers using Botocore on Python 2.7 may
  37. need to upgrade their version of Python or pin the version of Botocore. For
  38. more information, see this `blog post <https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/developer/announcing-end-of-support-for-python-2-7-in-aws-sdk-for-python-and-aws-cli-v1/>`__.
  39. On 10/29/2020 deprecation for Python 3.4 and Python 3.5 was announced and support
  40. was dropped on 02/01/2021. To avoid disruption, customers using Botocore
  41. on Python 3.4 or 3.5 may need to upgrade their version of Python or pin the
  42. version of Botocore. For more information, see
  43. this `blog post <https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/developer/announcing-the-end-of-support-for-python-3-4-and-3-5-in-the-aws-sdk-for-python-and-aws-cli-v1/>`__.
  44. Getting Started
  45. ---------------
  46. Assuming that you have Python and ``virtualenv`` installed, set up your environment and install the required dependencies like this or you can install the library using ``pip``:
  47. .. code-block:: sh
  48. $ git clone https://github.com/boto/botocore.git
  49. $ cd botocore
  50. $ virtualenv venv
  51. ...
  52. $ . venv/bin/activate
  53. $ pip install -r requirements.txt
  54. $ pip install -e .
  55. .. code-block:: sh
  56. $ pip install botocore
  57. Using Botocore
  58. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  59. After installing botocore
  60. Next, set up credentials (in e.g. ``~/.aws/credentials``):
  61. .. code-block:: ini
  62. [default]
  63. aws_access_key_id = YOUR_KEY
  64. aws_secret_access_key = YOUR_SECRET
  65. Then, set up a default region (in e.g. ``~/.aws/config``):
  66. .. code-block:: ini
  67. [default]
  68. region=us-east-1
  69. Other credentials configuration method can be found `here <https://boto3.amazonaws.com/v1/documentation/api/latest/guide/credentials.html>`__
  70. Then, from a Python interpreter:
  71. .. code-block:: python
  72. >>> import botocore.session
  73. >>> session = botocore.session.get_session()
  74. >>> client = session.create_client('ec2')
  75. >>> print(client.describe_instances())
  76. Getting Help
  77. ------------
  78. We use GitHub issues for tracking bugs and feature requests and have limited
  79. bandwidth to address them. Please use these community resources for getting
  80. help. Please note many of the same resources available for ``boto3`` are
  81. applicable for ``botocore``:
  82. * Ask a question on `Stack Overflow <https://stackoverflow.com/>`__ and tag it with `boto3 <https://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/boto3>`__
  83. * Come join the AWS Python community chat on `gitter <https://gitter.im/boto/boto3>`__
  84. * Open a support ticket with `AWS Support <https://console.aws.amazon.com/support/home#/>`__
  85. * If it turns out that you may have found a bug, please `open an issue <https://github.com/boto/botocore/issues/new>`__
  86. Contributing
  87. ------------
  88. We value feedback and contributions from our community. Whether it's a bug report, new feature, correction, or additional documentation, we welcome your issues and pull requests. Please read through this `CONTRIBUTING <https://github.com/boto/botocore/blob/develop/CONTRIBUTING.rst>`__ document before submitting any issues or pull requests to ensure we have all the necessary information to effectively respond to your contribution.
  89. Maintenance and Support for SDK Major Versions
  90. ----------------------------------------------
  91. Botocore was made generally available on 06/22/2015 and is currently in the full support phase of the availability life cycle.
