  31. A low-level interface to a growing number of Amazon Web Services. The
  32. botocore package is the foundation for the
  33. `AWS CLI <https://github.com/aws/aws-cli>`__ as well as
  34. `boto3 <https://github.com/boto/boto3>`__.
  35. Botocore is maintained and published by `Amazon Web Services`_.
  36. Notices
  37. -------
  38. On 2021-01-15, deprecation for Python 2.7 was announced and support was dropped
  39. on 2021-07-15. To avoid disruption, customers using Botocore on Python 2.7 may
  40. need to upgrade their version of Python or pin the version of Botocore. For
  41. more information, see this `blog post <https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/developer/announcing-end-of-support-for-python-2-7-in-aws-sdk-for-python-and-aws-cli-v1/>`__.
  42. On 2022-05-30, support was dropped for Python 3.6. This follows the
  43. Python Software Foundation `end of support <https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0494/#lifespan>`__
  44. for the runtime which occurred on 2021-12-23.

  56. Getting Started
  57. ---------------
  58. Assuming that you have Python and ``virtualenv`` installed, set up your environment and install the required dependencies like this or you can install the library using ``pip``:
  59. .. code-block:: sh
  60. $ git clone https://github.com/boto/botocore.git
  61. $ cd botocore
  62. $ virtualenv venv
  63. ...
  64. $ . venv/bin/activate
  65. $ pip install -r requirements.txt
  66. $ pip install -e .
  67. .. code-block:: sh
  68. $ pip install botocore
  69. Using Botocore
  70. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  71. After installing botocore
  72. Next, set up credentials (in e.g. ``~/.aws/credentials``):
  73. .. code-block:: ini
  74. [default]
  75. aws_access_key_id = YOUR_KEY
  76. aws_secret_access_key = YOUR_SECRET
  77. Then, set up a default region (in e.g. ``~/.aws/config``):
  78. .. code-block:: ini
  79. [default]
  80. region=us-east-1
  81. Other credentials configuration method can be found `here <https://boto3.amazonaws.com/v1/documentation/api/latest/guide/credentials.html>`__
  82. Then, from a Python interpreter:
  83. .. code-block:: python
  84. >>> import botocore.session
  85. >>> session = botocore.session.get_session()
  86. >>> client = session.create_client('ec2')
  87. >>> print(client.describe_instances())
  88. Getting Help
  89. ------------
  90. We use GitHub issues for tracking bugs and feature requests and have limited
  91. bandwidth to address them. Please use these community resources for getting
  92. help. Please note many of the same resources available for ``boto3`` are
  93. applicable for ``botocore``:
  94. * Ask a question on `Stack Overflow <https://stackoverflow.com/>`__ and tag it with `boto3 <https://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/boto3>`__
  95. * Open a support ticket with `AWS Support <https://console.aws.amazon.com/support/home#/>`__
  96. * If it turns out that you may have found a bug, please `open an issue <https://github.com/boto/botocore/issues/new>`__
  97. Contributing
  98. ------------
  99. We value feedback and contributions from our community. Whether it's a bug report, new feature, correction, or additional documentation, we welcome your issues and pull requests. Please read through this `CONTRIBUTING <https://github.com/boto/botocore/blob/develop/CONTRIBUTING.rst>`__ document before submitting any issues or pull requests to ensure we have all the necessary information to effectively respond to your contribution.
