  32. A low-level interface to a growing number of Amazon Web Services. The
  33. botocore package is the foundation for the
  34. `AWS CLI <https://github.com/aws/aws-cli>`__ as well as
  35. `boto3 <https://github.com/boto/boto3>`__.
  36. Botocore is maintained and published by `Amazon Web Services`_.
  37. Notices
  38. -------
  39. On 2021-01-15, deprecation for Python 2.7 was announced and support was dropped
  40. on 2021-07-15. To avoid disruption, customers using Botocore on Python 2.7 may
  41. need to upgrade their version of Python or pin the version of Botocore. For
  42. more information, see this `blog post <https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/developer/announcing-end-of-support-for-python-2-7-in-aws-sdk-for-python-and-aws-cli-v1/>`__.
  43. On 2022-05-30, we will be dropping support for Python 3.6. This follows the
  44. Python Software Foundation `end of support <https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0494/#lifespan>`__
  45. for the runtime which occurred on 2021-12-23.
  46. For more information, see this `blog post <https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/developer/python-support-policy-updates-for-aws-sdks-and-tools/>`__.

  57. Getting Started
  58. ---------------
  59. Assuming that you have Python and ``virtualenv`` installed, set up your environment and install the required dependencies like this or you can install the library using ``pip``:
  60. .. code-block:: sh
  61. $ git clone https://github.com/boto/botocore.git
  62. $ cd botocore
  63. $ virtualenv venv
  64. ...
  65. $ . venv/bin/activate
  66. $ pip install -r requirements.txt
  67. $ pip install -e .
  68. .. code-block:: sh
  69. $ pip install botocore
  70. Using Botocore
  71. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  72. After installing botocore
  73. Next, set up credentials (in e.g. ``~/.aws/credentials``):
  74. .. code-block:: ini
  75. [default]
  76. aws_access_key_id = YOUR_KEY
  77. aws_secret_access_key = YOUR_SECRET
  78. Then, set up a default region (in e.g. ``~/.aws/config``):
  79. .. code-block:: ini
  80. [default]
  81. region=us-east-1
  82. Other credentials configuration method can be found `here <https://boto3.amazonaws.com/v1/documentation/api/latest/guide/credentials.html>`__
  83. Then, from a Python interpreter:
  84. .. code-block:: python
  85. >>> import botocore.session
  86. >>> session = botocore.session.get_session()
  87. >>> client = session.create_client('ec2')
  88. >>> print(client.describe_instances())
  89. Getting Help
  90. ------------
  91. We use GitHub issues for tracking bugs and feature requests and have limited
  92. bandwidth to address them. Please use these community resources for getting
  93. help. Please note many of the same resources available for ``boto3`` are
  94. applicable for ``botocore``:
  95. * Ask a question on `Stack Overflow <https://stackoverflow.com/>`__ and tag it with `boto3 <https://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/boto3>`__
  96. * Open a support ticket with `AWS Support <https://console.aws.amazon.com/support/home#/>`__
  97. * If it turns out that you may have found a bug, please `open an issue <https://github.com/boto/botocore/issues/new>`__
  98. Contributing
