  8. @chapter External libraries
  9. FFmpeg can be hooked up with a number of external libraries to add support
  10. for more formats. None of them are used by default, their use has to be
  11. explicitly requested by passing the appropriate flags to
  12. @command{./configure}.
  13. @section OpenJPEG
  14. FFmpeg can use the OpenJPEG libraries for encoding/decoding J2K videos. Go to
  15. @url{http://www.openjpeg.org/} to get the libraries and follow the installation
  16. instructions. To enable using OpenJPEG in FFmpeg, pass @code{--enable-libopenjpeg} to
  17. @file{./configure}.
  18. @section OpenCORE, VisualOn, and Fraunhofer libraries
  19. Spun off Google Android sources, OpenCore, VisualOn and Fraunhofer
  20. libraries provide encoders for a number of audio codecs.
  21. @float NOTE
  22. OpenCORE and VisualOn libraries are under the Apache License 2.0
  23. (see @url{http://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0} for details), which is
  24. incompatible to the LGPL version 2.1 and GPL version 2. You have to
  25. upgrade FFmpeg's license to LGPL version 3 (or if you have enabled
  26. GPL components, GPL version 3) by passing @code{--enable-version3} to configure in
  27. order to use it.
  28. The Fraunhofer AAC library is licensed under a license incompatible to the GPL
  29. and is not known to be compatible to the LGPL. Therefore, you have to pass
  30. @code{--enable-nonfree} to configure to use it.
  31. @end float
  32. @subsection OpenCORE AMR
  33. FFmpeg can make use of the OpenCORE libraries for AMR-NB
  34. decoding/encoding and AMR-WB decoding.
  35. Go to @url{http://sourceforge.net/projects/opencore-amr/} and follow the
  36. instructions for installing the libraries.
  37. Then pass @code{--enable-libopencore-amrnb} and/or
  38. @code{--enable-libopencore-amrwb} to configure to enable them.
  39. @subsection VisualOn AAC encoder library
  40. FFmpeg can make use of the VisualOn AACenc library for AAC encoding.
  41. Go to @url{http://sourceforge.net/projects/opencore-amr/} and follow the
  42. instructions for installing the library.
  43. Then pass @code{--enable-libvo-aacenc} to configure to enable it.
  44. @subsection VisualOn AMR-WB encoder library
  45. FFmpeg can make use of the VisualOn AMR-WBenc library for AMR-WB encoding.
  46. Go to @url{http://sourceforge.net/projects/opencore-amr/} and follow the
  47. instructions for installing the library.
  48. Then pass @code{--enable-libvo-amrwbenc} to configure to enable it.
  49. @subsection Fraunhofer AAC library
  50. FFmpeg can make use of the Fraunhofer AAC library for AAC encoding.
  51. Go to @url{http://sourceforge.net/projects/opencore-amr/} and follow the
  52. instructions for installing the library.
  53. Then pass @code{--enable-libfdk-aac} to configure to enable it.
  54. @section LAME
  55. FFmpeg can make use of the LAME library for MP3 encoding.
  56. Go to @url{http://lame.sourceforge.net/} and follow the
  57. instructions for installing the library.
  58. Then pass @code{--enable-libmp3lame} to configure to enable it.
  59. @section TwoLAME
  60. FFmpeg can make use of the TwoLAME library for MP2 encoding.
  61. Go to @url{http://www.twolame.org/} and follow the
  62. instructions for installing the library.
  63. Then pass @code{--enable-libtwolame} to configure to enable it.
  64. @section libvpx
  65. FFmpeg can make use of the libvpx library for VP8 encoding.
  66. Go to @url{http://www.webmproject.org/} and follow the instructions for
  67. installing the library. Then pass @code{--enable-libvpx} to configure to
  68. enable it.
  69. @section libwavpack
  70. FFmpeg can make use of the libwavpack library for WavPack encoding.
  71. Go to @url{http://www.wavpack.com/} and follow the instructions for
  72. installing the library. Then pass @code{--enable-libwavpack} to configure to
  73. enable it.
  74. @section x264
  75. FFmpeg can make use of the x264 library for H.264 encoding.
  76. Go to @url{http://www.videolan.org/developers/x264.html} and follow the
  77. instructions for installing the library. Then pass @code{--enable-libx264} to
  78. configure to enable it.
  79. @float NOTE
  80. x264 is under the GNU Public License Version 2 or later
  81. (see @url{http://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.html} for
  82. details), you must upgrade FFmpeg's license to GPL in order to use it.
  83. @end float
  84. @section libilbc
  85. iLBC is a narrowband speech codec that has been made freely available
  86. by Google as part of the WebRTC project. libilbc is a packaging friendly
  87. copy of the iLBC codec. FFmpeg can make use of the libilbc library for
  88. iLBC encoding and decoding.
  89. Go to @url{https://github.com/dekkers/libilbc} and follow the instructions for
